The Association of Boxing Commissions (ABC) is a Federally-mandated 501c3 tax exempt entity whose mission is to help create rules, regulations, and suggestions to state legislatures to help protect the health and welfare of our combat sports athletes. These men and woman put their physical, mental, and emotional well-being on the line every time they step into the ring or cage.

Combat sports are humankind’s original sport, and much more. They play so central a role in human existence that the origin myth of many cultures centers on it. Greek mythology celebrates the rise of Zeus as ruler of the earth after a wrestling match with his father, Cronus. Japan’s origin myths centers on a wrestling match between Takemikazuchi and Takeminakata Takemikazuchi, and it remains the national sport of Japan. in Genesis 32:22 – 32, Jacob wrestles with man, an angel, who may have been God

Combat sports have always held a huge influence and enjoyment in all of our lives, and have enriched us all in so many ways. We as regulators get to witness both the front and the back of combat sports – the thrill of these athletes’ victories and the agony of their inevitable defeats. But what happens to some of these athletes after the fight is over? Physical and mental injuries sustained in combat may surface long after an athletes’ career is ended. Unfortunately, some need help and support after their careers are over.

The ABC has implemented a Retired Fighter Charitable Fund to help retired fighters who may have fallen on hard times due to mental or physical health issues related to injuries sustained while competing in combat sports. No one on the Board of the Fund accepts any payments whatsoever and there are no administrative expenses. 100% of donations goes directly to aid fighters.

Qualified athletes can submit for a gift to help with medical and/or living expenses during a challenging time. The charity never makes payments to the athlete personally, but to the debtor or guardian, on the athlete’s
behalf.

Our charity is in its early phase – the first gifts were awarded last year during the 2017 Conference. Will You please consider helping us to support the athletes who have given so much of their physical, mental, and emotional selves for our entertainment?

There are many ways to support the Retired Fighter Charitable Fund:

  • Cash donations
  • Goods and services
  • Sponsorship of an event

We are also looking for corporate partners to help us to extend our reach to as many athletes as possible. Please reach out to via email ([email protected]) at your early convenience for further details.

Thank you in advance for your generosity and kindness!
